About the Soundings Project
The Soundings Project is a joint collaboration between the National Humanities Center (NHC), the Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI), and the Libraries of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH). The project seeks to preserve the original physical as well as digital media at archival standards and provide access to the digitized episodes of the radio program via the Internet.
Sharing the episodes electronically will take place in two phases:
To expedite the process of editing computer-generated transcripts of the Soundings episodes, the current website hosts each of the episodes along with a Flash-based editing tool. If you are interested in volunteering to help edit any episodes, please visit this page and fill out the contact form. At this time, RENCI is hosting the website.
When the transcripts are edited and finalized, the Soundings archive will move to the University of North Carolina’s Digital Collections.
